After 2015, Puerto Galera members actually saw an increase in the potential threat from their dive centres so recently, international coordinators from Reef-World returned to reinvigorate momentum.
The 5th International Tropical Marine Ecosystem Management Symposium (ITMEMS5) was held in Panglao, Bohol, the Philippines from the 25th – 28th February 2016 and was designed to build the conservation capacity of over 50 marine resource managers from 27 countries.
2015 saw another year where 100% of the active dive centres in Malapascua signed up to be members.
Two staff from Reef-World visited The El Nido Foundation, on location, to conduct a Green Fins Assessor Refresher Training course between the 23rdNovember and the 1st December 2015.
During July and August of this year, a team of volunteer Green Fins assessors are working with Green Fins members in Moalboal, Cebu for a fourth year!
From January to March 2015, the Green Fins team supported by Zoox volunteers were carrying out the fifth year of assessments in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro.
Throughout July and August a team of five Green Fins assessors will be piloting the initiative to dive centres in the Municipality of Panglao, Bohol.
Reef-World is proud to announce the formation of the latest Green Fins Ambassador group in Malapascua.
Green Fins Coordinators have recently been assessing dive centres on Malapascua Island and despite the memory of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) one year on, the community remains strong and empowered.
