In September 2016 Reef-World conducted another Assessor Training Programme on Pulau Perhentian for five Department of Marine Parks staff and one additional Reef Check representative.
In July, Reef-World staff Jula, and volunteer, Kelsey, visited Mactan Island – known as the mecca of the Korean diving community.
For six weeks in July and August, Green Fins assessors conducted Green Fins assessments for members in Panglao, Bohol.
On July 20th 2016, Green Fins Assessors coordinated a multi stakeholder beach clean-up event that was attended by over 80 volunteers.
Alan (Reef-World Project Coordinator) attended a meeting in Batangas City to orientate the government staff to the Green Fins approach and then allow them structured time to develop an Action Plan which can then be included in their 2017 Work and Financial Plans.
In April 2016, Green Fins coordinators from The Reef-World Foundation launched Green Fins activities in the popular diving destination of Dauin, Negros Oriental, Philippines (Region 18).
On July 29th 2017, Green Fins stakeholders organised a beach clean-up involving the dive shops, local community and local government. In just two hours, over 60 volunteers collected roughly 400 kg of trash from Doljo Beach.
Some dive shops in Singapore realised the more people you have diving a reef, the higher the damage to the reef and wanted to help protect coral reefs by reducing their impacts by joining the Green Fins programme.
In May 2016, The Reef-World Foundation launched the first Green Fins Snorkel Assessor Training programme in El Nido, Philippines.
Since 2012, in collaboration with Bangor University, Reef-World has been collecting data on diving behaviour in the Philippines and the adoption of Green Fins environmental practices as part of a study into the impacts of scuba diving on the health of our coral reefs.
