As members, Reef-World attended the 33rd General Meeting of ICRI in Monaco from the 5th – 7th December. The revolving Secretariat of this prestigious network of leading experts in the field of coral reef science and conservation is currently hosted by the governments of Monaco, Indonesia and Australia.
At the request of Ms Tricia Lovell, the Senior Fisheries Officer from the Department of Fisheries, Reef-World were invited to come to Antigua and Barbuda to help explore the potential of the introducing Green Fins into the country to help better manage the growing marine tourism industry.
From the 12th to the 17th November 2018, Reef-World were invited to return to the Dominican Republic to provide more training and support for the national team.
For the first time ever, Green Fins was showcased in the US as part of the DEMA dive show in Las Vegas. Chloe Harvey from Reef-World ran a series of BlueGreen seminars in partnership with Laurie Wilson from the Blue Ocean Network.
The Government of the Republic of Indonesia hosted the fifth Our Ocean Conference in Bali on 29th and 30th of October 2018. Klementina, from Reef-World, participated at the conference and was positively surprised by the momentum building up around coral reefs.
ITB Asia is an annually held three day B2B trade show and convention for the travel industry. Klementina from Reef-World visited the show and initiated relationships with wider travel industry leaders, such as hotel and resort chains, booking companies, airlines, tour operators, etc.
Between 6-11 August 2018, seven new assessors were certified, creating new collaborations between the El Nido-Taytay Managed Resource Protected Area Office, CENRO Taytay and The El Nido Foundation.
The final tranche of this year’s Green Fins assessor training in the Philippines ran from 15-20 August 2018 in Moalboal, Cebu.
Between 16th -20th July 2018, The Reef-World Foundation trained six field staff from the Community Environment and Natural Resource Offices Lipa and Calaca, and the Batangas Community Divers to coordinate the Green Fins approach in Mabini, Philippines.
