June 2017 – Green Fins is on Deepblu

As of June 2017 the Green Fins initiative is present on the first social network and interactive, shareable logbook for divers and ocean enthusiast worldwide! Deepblu was released on April 2016 and since then it has been revolutionising social media interaction for divers. The presence of Green Fins on the platform will serve as a direct source of information on everything related to sustainable diving. Why is it important to be sustainable? What are the impacts of diving on the marine environment? What can I do as a diver? How does Green Fins work? Find the answer to these and many other questions by following the Green Fins profile.

This new collaboration between Deepblu and The Reef-World Foundation, international coordinator of the Green Fins initiative, aims to change divers’ mindset towards sustainability through direct interaction and the sharing of tools and knowledge gathered over 10 years of successful implementation with the diving industry. The mission of the initiative will be shared amongst more than 28,000 members worldwide, increasing the awareness and with that, the chance of survival for coral reefs.

If you haven’t already joined up, give it a go and be part of the growing network! Deepblu is the online community for divers and ocean enthusiasts where you can connect with other divers and share dive logs, photos, and updates. Stay in tune with the latest diving news, trends and groups by being part of a platform created especially for ocean lovers.

Green Fins is a proven conservation management approach – spearheaded by The Reef-World Foundation in partnership with the UN Environment Programme – which leads to a measurable reduction in the negative environmental impacts associated with the marine tourism industry. The initiative aims to protect and conserve coral reefs through environmentally friendly guidelines that promote a sustainable diving and snorkelling tourism industry. It provides the only internationally recognised environmental standards for the diving and snorkelling industry and has a robust assessment system to measure compliance.
