As of the 12th November 2016, Green Fins are now official partners with the Miss SCUBA International (MSI) pageant, the only pageant programme that globally focusses on the importance of the oceans and their current struggle. The founder of the programme, Mr Robert Lo is a strong believer in sustainable development within the realms of the marine environment and hopes that by sharing the beauty and wonders of the underwater world via beauty queens, it will enable more people to understand how fragile the seas and oceans are and how much more we all need to play our individual roles to make difference in protecting it. The Reef-World Foundation (the international coordinator of Green Fins) is highly supportive of the various programmes and initiatives that MSI already support and their interest in sustainable development perfectly mirrors Green Fins mission statement “To protect and conserve coral reefs by establishing and implementing environmentally friendly guidelines to promote a sustainable diving and snorkelling tourism industry.”
This partnership will promote the various activities in our joined mission to build awareness on the various issues surrounding sustainable marine tourism and development whilst promoting positive messages of best practice internationally. The next Miss Scuba International competition will take place in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia on the 19thNovember 2016 so look out for the Green Fins logo!
The Miss Scuba International pageant was held for the very first time in 2011. There has been many a beauty pageant held in the past, many embracing great causes, however none yet have focused on our oceans. This even was produced to celebrate, not only, the inner beauty and courage of today’s modern women, but also to simultaneously advocate worldwide marine conservation.
The Miss Scuba International Organization is founded by Mr Robert Lo who is a strong believer in sustainable development within the realms of our marine environment. He hopes that by sharing the beauty and wonders of the underwater world via beauty queens, it will enable more people to understand how fragile our oceans are and how much more we all need to play our individual little roles to make a big difference in protecting it.
Additionally, it also aims to promote safe diving practices through worldwide professional training organizations, and elevate international tourism and cultural appreciation. As people travel to far off destinations to dive, they also learn to appreciate the cultural diversity that makes our world such an interesting tapestry.
