New for 2017, Green Fins Palau is being introduced alongside State and National government departments, Palau Conservation Society and the Palau International Coral Reef Centre.

Following a workshop conducted by The Reef-World Foundation from the 1-3 March 2017, it was agreed that Green Fins would be a suitable approach to help mitigate the negative impacts from the growing diving and snorkelling tourism industry in Palau. During this workshop there were representatives from state conservation officers and rangers from Koror, Melekeok, Ngardmau, and Ngarchelong, the Director of the Bureau of Tourism, Managing Director of Palau Visitors Authority, Executive Director of Belau Tourism Association, Executive Director of Palau Conservation Society, CEO of the Palau International Coral Reef Center and representatives of major dive and snorkelling centres in Palau.

It is anticipated that full implementation of Green Fins will take place in August and September 2017 which will see the establishment of a new Green Fins management team, recruitment of new Green Fins members and the subsequent assessment and training of these members.
