If you are using a boat for your dive trip, it is important that you inform your divers about how they can reduce their impact when using the boat. Below are some points to mention when you give an introduction to the boat so that guests can be aware of how they can positively contribute to the protection of the marine environment.
Remember to mention:
Responsible use of a marine toilet – ask guests not to use the marine toilet over dive sites, and only when the boat is moving. If there is no holding tank, inform them that they must only put biodegradable matter down the toilet. Tell your guests that everything they flush will end up in the ocean and point out trash cans where they can dispose of tissue.
Do not throw trash from the boat – demonstrate how to safely and appropriately dispose of waste including cigarette butts.
Where the bins / trash cans are.
Where they can smoke (if permitted) and where to put their cigarette butts.
That you do not allow fish feeding – it attracts fish away from their natural habitat and food source and can lead to long-term negative changes in the ecosystem.
If there is a shower – to not use any soap that could end up in the sea.
That they should fill up their re-useable bottles with water from the water cooler (or similar).
