Green Fins 20^th Anniversary Instagram Reels Contest

Contest title

“Show Off Your Green Fins in Action!”

Contest duration

The contest will run from 23 September 2024 (9:00 AM UTC+8) until 6 October 2024 (11:59 PM UTC+8).

Objective

This contest is organised by The Reef-World Foundation, Green Fins international coordinator in celebration of Green Fins’ 20th anniversary. The contest is to encourage marine tourism operators (scuba diving, snorkelling, liveaboard) to create and share Instagram reels that demonstrate how they are incorporating and implementing environmental best practices in their operations. The goal is to raise awareness of environmental best practices and promote sustainable tourism.

Eligibility

1. The contest is open to all dive, snorkel and liveaboard operators globally regardless of Green Fins membership status.
2. Staff of operation can enter and submit as long as the reels are submitted as Instagram collaboration with the operation where they work.
3. Participants must have a public and not private Instagram account.
4. Participants should be of an age 18 years or above at the time of entry into the contest.

How to enter

1. Follow @Green_Fins and @Reef_World on Instagram.
2. Create an Instagram reel (up to 30 seconds) showcasing the steps your operation is taking to follow the Green Fins Code of Conduct. Highlight specific practices such as waste reduction, anchoring or mooring techniques, chemical waste disposal, customer/staff education or coral reef protection efforts.
3. Share your reel on Instagram, making sure to tag @Green_Fins and use the official contest hashtags #GreenFinsInAction and #GreenFins20.
4. In the caption, mention how your operation is promoting and following environmental best practices and why you are implementing the efforts in your operation.

Judging criteria

A panel of judges from the Green Fins team will evaluate entries based on the following criteria:

• Creativity: How innovative and engaging is the reel?
• Adherence to the Green Fins Code of Conduct: How well does the content showcase environmental best practices?
• Storytelling: Does the reel effectively convey the operator’s commitment to marine conservation according to the Green Fins Code of Conduct?
• Impact: How well does the reel demonstrate sustainable tourism and diving practices?
• Special Community Award (only for active Green Fins Members): the most popular reel voted on the Green Fins Community Forum.

Prizes

The following prizes are up for grabs:

• 9x Green Fins Dive Guide e-Course certificates (3x per winner)
• 1x Feature on the Green Fins website dedicated to your operation 
• 1x Feature post to celebrate your operation on the Green Fins Community Forum 
• 1x Spotlight across all Green Fins social media channels
• 1x Community Badge for the Special Community Award winner

Terms & conditions

1. By entering the contest, participants give permission to The Reef-World Foundation and the Green Fins initiative to share and promote the content across all Reef-World and Green Fins platforms.
2. The reel must be original and created specifically for this contest.
3. Any content deemed inappropriate or violating Instagram’s community guidelines will be disqualified.
4. Winners will be announced on 16 October 2024 and will be notified via Instagram Direct Messenger.
5. The contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Instagram.
