Under a Regional Programme of the Mangroves for the Future Initiative (IUCN) and in collaboration with our partners the UNEP, Reef-World trained and implemented the approach into the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in 2013. Although relatively new to the diving and snorkelling industry compared to other nearby SE Asian countries, the popularity of tourists coming to Vietnam to learn to dive is sharply on the increase. With a vibrant culture and war torn past, Vietnam has always attracted many tourists but with Marine Parks and attractive bays and islands within easy reach, diving has quickly become a popular holiday pastime.
Green Fins Vietnam is overseen by the Institute of Oceanography (IO) under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST). IO is based in Nha Trang which makes for a natural location for Green Fins to be implemented into the local diving community on a pilot scale before expanding into other diverse and popular diving locations in the country.
